Healing has to start somewhere

So, I’ve had these breasts for 44 years. The left one is now removed.

I have had breast cancer.

I hesitated to share this, yet I chose to do so because I want to remind women to get their check-ups. After speaking to several close friends,

I was shocked to hear they hadn’t had any! For me, I have always been diligent about getting check-ups, especially after breastfeeding.

I went every six months for both mammograms and sonograms,

being acutely aware that breast cancer runs strongly among the women on my father's side of the family.

The doctors kept telling me it was fibrous tissue and cysts, yet I kept going back for checks. It wasn't a surprise when the results from two biopsies came back positive.

Back in June 2019, I felt a lump in my left breast during a flight to California for work. My heart sank. My first thought was, “I better get all my passwords sorted out for Jo!” as my mind raced.
